“A New Franklin estate built from a frankfurter fortune is recommended for National Register of Historic Places”

The Zimmerly property, a massive brick colonial and carriage house built between 1919 and 1921, is being recommended for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places by the Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board. The property was built using the fortune of the Swiss-born Zimmerly family, who made their wealth selling frankfurters and sausage by horse and buggy around Akron, starting in 1891. Currently, the home and carriage house are being restored and renovated by the Pulk family, who plan to turn the property into Prime Vine, featuring a vineyard, wine tasting room, and events space.
